Special Workforce Initiatives

Veterans Employment Assistance Program

The Veterans Employment Assistance Program (VEAP) is a collaboration of the County of San Mateo Workforce Investment Board, City College of San Francisco, PG&E, and is funded by the Department of Labor.  This training is provided by a grant designated specifically for recently discharged Veterans (after January, 2005).  Applicants should be interested in working for PG&E as a Utility Line Worker, with opportunities for advancement in apprenticeship programs.

The County of San Mateo is recruiting for the second cohort, planned to begin April 14, 2009 at the City College of San Francisco.  The course is 16 weeks long, with evening classes on Tuesdays & Thursdays, and all-day classes on Saturdays.  Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of completion and interview with PG&E for job opportunities in the Bay Area.

If you are interested in becoming part of VEAP, please contact County of San Mateo Workforce Development at (650) 802-3317.  For more information about the program, please view the flyer by clicking here.

Judicial Careers Education Partnership

The Judicial Careers Education Partnership (JCEP) is a strategic response to the development needs of the California Courts. Community colleges, in partnership with the California Superior Courts, Administrative Office of the Courts, and the Workforce Investment Boards of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties established JCEP to meet these pressing workforce needs through a new and innovated educational program. These members have developed leadership principles, high teamwork, business communications, as well as skills for success. If you are in need of accomplished, dedicated workers in your Court System, JCEP has the personnel for you!

"The Step Up To Leadership Class was a great opportunity to learn and develop leadership and communication skills. These are tools we will utilize throughout our careers and in all aspects of our lives."

Instrumental and Calibration Technology

The instrumentation/calibration technicians of the College of San Mateo have been cross-trained for more than one specific work industry. They are adaptable for over fourteen different industry clusters that are recognized by ISA, the Instrument, Systems, and Automation Society. These clusters range from semiconductor manufacturing to food processing, pharmaceuticals to public utilities, and electro-optics to transportation. The College of San Mateo has schooled and crafted these technicians to be versatile in the work industry, as well as in the workplace. Along with the basic understanding of math, physics, chemistry, electronics, and instrument systems, these technicians work in a team environment and clearly understand and follow any and all requirements of government or industry regulatory agencies. If your company has the need for highly skilled and professional technicians, let us complement your workforce with committed and experienced staff!
